Fun Run
Syringa Elementary hosts a fun run each year. They kick off the week, talking about nutrition, and encouraging the kids to run the track at recess. There are awards for being able to do so. With it comes this sort of pride in the kids. Pride that they are accomplishing something. From that pride is born, Competition. Now when we adults think of competition, we probably think about how mean it can get to be competitive. I get to see it through my 6 yr old's eyes. This means, if you are Campbell, he is sooooooo fast, then Ezra is the next fastest. Wyatt is right after Ez, and Mason is just a little slower, but he is right behind Wyatt. This running "list" has been all the talk for about 2 weeks. The list has varied, with new names and such, and some people moving up and down as fastest and slowest, but it was pretty much true to form at the end of the day.
This is Wyatt right at the start. He is such a determined little guy, and it shows on his face.
This is lap #2. That look is revived after he sees mom and sisters, and hears a cheer for him.
Here is lap #3 and the last one. He did awesome, and stayed in the middle of the pack. This is a huge improvement, as he was last (very last), last year.
Of course it isn't about being first, or even being the fastest. It is about trying to be better than you were, and giving it your all. They all get a Powerade and a jump rope. So proud of my little man!
